In what situation can two great arteries arise from a single cardiac chamber?
If there is only one ventricle, it is called univentricular heart or simply single ventricle. Both great arteries, aorta and pulmonary artery arise from this single chamber.
Sometimes both great arteries can arise from right ventricle and blood from left ventricle can reach right ventricle through a septal defect. Then it is called double outlet right ventricle, DORV. If both great arteries arises from the left ventricle, it is called double outlet left ventricle, DOLV. All these are rare complex congenital heart diseases and may be associated with other birth defects of the heart.
