എമറാൾഡ് ട്രീ, മരതക മരമോ?

ഇന്നലെ നഴ്സറിയിൽ നിന്ന് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ചെടികളാണിവ. കാണാൻ നല്ല തിളക്കമുള്ള ഇലകളായതിനാൽ ഇൻഡോർ പ്ലാന്റ്സ് ആയാണ് കൊണ്ടുവന്നത്. ചെടിയുടെ പേര് തിരഞ്ഞു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ നല്ല രസകരമായ പേരാണ് കിട്ടിയത്. എമറാൾഡ് ട്രീ, അഥവാ മരതക മരം! മരതകം എന്ന് കേട്ടിട്ടേ ഉള്ളു, കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല. എന്നാൽ അതിന്റെ ചിത്രം തിരഞ്ഞു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ കാര്യം പിടി കിട്ടി. മരതകം തിളങ്ങുന്ന പച്ച നിറമുള്ള രത്നമാണ്. അപ്പോൾ തിളങ്ങുന്ന ഇലകളാണ് ഈ ചെടിക്ക് ആ പേര് കിട്ടാൻ കാരണം. പുറത്തു മണ്ണിൽ നടുകയാണെങ്കിൽ വലിയ മരമാകുന്ന ചെടിയാണിത്. ചെടിച്ചട്ടിയിൽ നട്ടാൽ കുറ്റി ചെടിയായി നിലനിർത്താം. വീട്ടിനകത്ത് നല്ല വെളിച്ചമുള്ള ജനലിനടുത്തോ മറ്റോ വെച്ചാൽ മതി.

Nice name for this indoor plant: Emerald Tree!

These are the plants brought from the nursery yesterday. They were introduced as indoor plants because of their shiny leaves. When I searched for the name of the plant, I got a very interesting name. Emerald tree! I have only heard of emerald, but I have never seen one. But when I searched for a picture, I got the point. Emerald is a brilliant green colored gemstone. Then the shiny leaves are the reason why this plant got that name. It is a plant that grows into a large tree if planted outdoors. If planted in a pot, it can be maintained as a shrub. Just put it near a well-lit window or similar place inside the house.
