Harvesting Chinese Potato Grown in Sand Pot is Quite Easy!
|They say that when the leaves of Chinese Potato plants start drying up, it is time for harvest. Today I noted that Chinese Potato plants in one garden pot filled with sand have started drying up. A few such pots had been harvested last month. Plants in other garden pots are growing well and quite green and I presume that they are not yet ready for harvest. This is also the usual season for harvesting Chinese Potato. Pulled out the plants and they came off easily with the roots as they were in loose sand and you can see the Chinese Potato tubers nicely. Washed them well in a stream of water to remove remaining sand covering them.
Removed the plant shoots and separated the Chinese Potato tubers and now they are ready for the kitchen work table. Next step would be to skin them and then prepare the dish of your choice. As they are quite fresh, it will be easy to skin them, compared to Chinese Potato bought from shops which will be quite dry and the skin fairly adherent. Those will require soaking in water overnight for ease of skinning. Moreover the tubers bought from shops usually have a lot of mud adherent as well, requiring meticulous cleaning. It is quite convenient for us to harvest and use only according to our daily requirement so that you need not store them for a long period and end up with dry, adherent skin over the tubers.
