Propagating Areca Palm in Garden Pots

This areca palm is quite similar to the areca nut or betel nut plant in the pattern of early leaves. The areca nut palm grows into tall trees producing areca nuts. But this is a garden plant grown for ornamental value. While areca nut palm has only a single stem grown from a seed, this ornamental palm develops multiple side shoots. We have a couple of these in garden pots, brought from a local nursery. They are growing in the verandah.

Propagating Areca Palm in Garden Pots

This is the second plant growing in another garden pot. Decorative stones have been placed in the garden pots.

A few side stems were pulled out as the plants were overgrowing the garden pots. Then we thought of planting them in other garden pots. See that they look almost like baby areca nut plants.

One of them was planted in this garden pot, to see if it will grow up.

Second areca palm planted in another garden pot, which has been painted white.

Third one has been planted in this terracotta coloured garden pot. Nearby pot has plenty of Chinese Potato plants.

Fourth one goes to a garden pot which has been painted white at the top. There is an Okra plant growing in the nearby pot. Let me hope that all of them will survive and start growing into nice areca plants in their new locations. Shall post updates later.
