Beautiful ‘Desert Rose’ in my garden

After a long waiting period of several months, the adenium plant in my garden, also known as desert rose, has flowered. The first flower bud which appeared a few days back did not open and dropped down in a couple of days. Second bud has opened up into a beautiful flower, the first ever in my garden. This is the first time I am growing adenium in my little garden at my city home. I had a fancy for adenium when my cousin living at another place told me that he has plenty of them at his residence. He also makes new plants by grafting adenium and gets good results. He had also mentioned that pruning in sunny weather promotes flowering and I had done so a few weeks back.

I had picked up a small adenium plant from a local nursery. It was transferred to a bigger garden pot the next day, with due precautions to prevent damage to the roots. Almost whole of the soil in the grow bag was also transferred along with it, to make sure that the plant will have same soil to continue growing in the initial period. It was kept in shade for a few days and then transferred to an area with bright sunlight on the terrace. Later when the rainy season came, it was brought to the garden in front of my home. Some time later almost all leaves were damaged due to some infestation and I had to prune it well. A little later, the garden pot was also painted white, as you can see in the previous video clip.

Fortunately the plant grew back well and flourished. Now I have a beautiful ‘desert rose’ adorning my garden. Let me hope that it will continue to produce many more nice flowers in the sunny weather before rainy season takes over in a few months. I do wish to have many more varieties of adenium in the garden, though I am yet to see any other types in the local nurseries. My cousin says he has several varieties at his home. But that is about over hundred kilometers from here.
