Pineapple plant in company of a grafted mango plant
|This pineapple plant was not planted by me. Most probably it came up from the fruit and vegetable waste which was used for composting nearby. The mango plant is a grafted mango plant which had borne a few fruits in the past two years. Then the leaves developed some sort of disease and got fully damaged, needing an obligatory pruning. Mango trees in the neighbours plot also had similar problem. Fortunately this mango plant is growing back after pruning. Most probably this plant will not bear fruits in this season as it is having very few branches. But this plant had flowered two or three times a year during previous years. So may be after some time, it may have delayed flowering and fruiting this year itself. Pineapple plant is too young to bear fruit.
This is another pineapple plant which has been here for almost three years now. Not sure when this one will start bearing fruits and developing side shoots. Plenty of good leaves are seen and the growth seems to be good. It was grown from the shoot taken from a pineapple bought for eating. Eagerly waiting to see fruits and side shoots, which are routine for pineapple plants in the neighbouring plots.
