കരിങ്കൽ മതിലിൽ പടർന്ന് കായ്ക്കുന്ന കോവൽ വള്ളി!

കോവൽ വള്ളി പടർത്താൻ വേറെ സ്ഥലമില്ലാത്തതിനാൽ വലിയ കരിങ്കൽ മതിലിൽ തന്നെ ആവട്ടെ എന്ന് കരുതി. വെറുതെ ഒരു വള്ളി നട്ടതേ ഉള്ളു, കാര്യമായ പരിചരണമൊന്നും വേണ്ടി വന്നില്ല. നിറയെ പടർന്നു കയറി. നിലത്തു കൂടി പടരുമ്പോൾ പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും പുതിയ വേരുകളും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത് കോവലിന്റെ ഒരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. തായ് ചെടിയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ബന്ധം മുറിച്ചാൽ പുതിയ ചെടിയായി വളർത്താൻ എളുപ്പമാണ്. വേണമെങ്കിൽ വേര് പിടിച്ച ഭാഗം മാറ്റി വേറൊരിടത്ത് നടുകയും ആവാം. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം കോവൽ പൂക്കൾ പോസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തിരുന്നല്ലോ. ഇപ്പോൾ ഇതാ ഒരു കോവക്ക. ഇനിയും മറ്റു കോവക്കകളും വളർന്നു വരുന്നുണ്ട്.

Ivy gourd growing and fruiting on a granite wall!

As there is no other place to spread the ivy gourd vine (Coccinia grandis), I thought it could grow on a big granite wall. Just planted a single vine and not much care was required. It has grown well and spread over the wall. A characteristic feature of the ivy gourd is that it grows new roots in many places as it spreads through the ground. It is easy to grow a new plant by cutting the connection from the parent plant. If desired, the rooted part can be separated and planted elsewhere. Ivy gourd flowers were posted the other day.
