Echo Quiz – Cardiology MCQ

Type of ASD seen in this echo:

ASD

a) Sinus venosus
b) Secundum
c) Primum
d) None of these

Correct answer: b) Secundum

There is good rim of septal tissue between the atrial septal defect and the atrioventricular valves, suggesting secundum ASD.

Primum ASD

The rim between ASD and the AV valves will be absent in ostium primum ASD as seen in this image. Both AV valves are at the same level in primum ASD.

In sinus venosus ASD, the superior rim will not be there. ASD with good rim all around is suitable for device closure. This should be confirmed by trans esophageal echo.
