Mechanism of pulmonary hypertension in kyphoscoliosis

There are two mechanisms for pulmonary hypertension in kyphoscoliosis:

  1. Hypoxemia due to hypoventilation in kyphoscoliosis leads to pulmonary vasoconstriction and pulmonary hypertension.
  2. Anatomical curtailment of pulmonary vasculature due to poor development in those with kyphoscoliosis from early life.
