What is myocardial stunning?

Myocardial stunning is reversible left ventricular function which persists for some time after relief of myocardial ischemia by thrombolysis or revascularization in acute myocardial infarction.
Atrial stunning occurs following electrical or pharmacological cardioversion for atrial fibrillation and may persist 3-4 weeks. During this period, though there is electrical activity, there is no atrial mechanical activity.
