{"id":3596,"date":"2009-12-24T00:19:31","date_gmt":"2009-12-24T00:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cardiophile.org\/?p=3596"},"modified":"2009-12-24T00:19:31","modified_gmt":"2009-12-24T00:19:31","slug":"lipoprotein-a-genetic-variants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/lipoprotein-a-genetic-variants\/","title":{"rendered":"Lipoprotein (a) genetic variants"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Lipoprotein (a) genetic variants<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lipoprotein (a) genetic variants: A study by Robert Clarke, John F Peden, Jemma C Hopewell, Theodosios Kyriakou, Anuj Goel, Simon C Heath, Sarah Parish, Simona Barlera, Maria Grazia Franzosi, Stephan Rust, Derrick Bennett, Angela Silveira, Anders Malarstig, Fiona R Green, Mark Lathrop, Bruna Gigante, Karin Leander, Ulf de Faire, Udo Seedorf, Anders Hamsten, Rory Collins, Hugh Watkins and Martin Farrall for the PROCARDIS Consortium published in the <em>New England Journal of Medicine<\/em> [1] used a novel gene chip containing 48742 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 2100 genes to test for associations in about 6500 persons {controls and those with coronary artery disease (CAD)}. It was found that three chromosomal regions (6q26\u201327, 9p21, and 1p13) were strongly associated with the risk of CAD. They identified a common variant at the LPA locus with an odds ratio of CAD of 1.7 and another independant variant with an odds ratio of 1.92.
