There is good correlation between Doppler derived myocardial performance index and cath derived invasive measures as well as with the clinical outcome. Myocardial performance index has different normal ranges for different age groups and for the left and <a href=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/parameters-of-right-ventricular-function-by-echocardiography\/\">right ventricles<\/a>, though it is roughly a little more than one third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advantages of myocardial performance index<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Simple to estimate<\/li>\n<li>Reproducible<\/li>\n<li>Not affected by geometry<\/li>\n<li>Assesses global function<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Down sides of MPI<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Non-simultaneous acquisition<\/li>\n<li>Load dependence<\/li>\n<li>Variation with heart rate, age and body surface area, and rhythm<\/li>\n<li>Nonspecific &#8211; unable to differentiate between systolic and diastolic dysfunction. There could also be pseudo-normalization due to this.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Tei index is used mainly in amyloidosis, dilated cardiomyopathy, and ischemic heart disease [3]. MPI values are independent of blood pressure, heart rate, afterload, preload and atrioventricular (AV) valve regurgitation.
