Some pacemakers have a display of the modes and parameters in addition. This description is on commonly used single chamber temporary pacemaker. The display lights up in case of pacemakers with a display panel. In simpler devices, a power on indicator will light up, as well as a battery indicator.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47890\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47890\" style=\"width: 1057px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47890\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/On-Off-Battery-Indicator.jpg\" alt=\"On-Off, Battery Indicator\" width=\"1057\" height=\"597\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On-Off, Battery Indicator<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pace\/sense indicator will start blinking at the set pacing rate. If there is a spontaneous rhythm sensed, the colour of the blinking indicator light will change to a different set colour, usually green.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47892\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47892\" style=\"width: 1057px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47892\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Pace-Sense-Indicator.jpg\" alt=\"Pace-Sense Indicator\" width=\"1057\" height=\"590\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pace-Sense Indicator<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The lock button is used to lock the settings to prevent inadvertent changes in pacemaker parameters. In can be unlocked when needed, to change the settings.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47893\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47893\" style=\"width: 1055px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47893\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Lock-button.jpg\" alt=\"Lock button\" width=\"1055\" height=\"598\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lock button<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pacing rate can be set as per the patient\u2019s physiological need. There will be dual rate controls in dual chamber pacemakers, one each for atrial and ventricular channels. For fast overdrive burst pacing there can be an additional 2X control button. Pressing the button will quickly double the pacing rate. This is useful sometimes for overdrive pacing to break tachycardias.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47894\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47894\" style=\"width: 1057px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47894\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Pacing-rate.jpg\" alt=\"Pacing rate\" width=\"1057\" height=\"594\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47894\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pacing rate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pacing output setting is decided after testing the pacing threshold. Threshold is checked by gradually reducing the output till the pacing capture is lost and then quickly raising it back. Usually output is set at three times the threshold for temporary pacemakers. Higher safety margins may be used if the person is restless and likely to have lead displacements.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47896\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47896\" style=\"width: 996px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47896\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Pacing-output.jpg\" alt=\"Pacing output\" width=\"996\" height=\"583\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47896\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pacing output<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Threshold should be checked at least once daily to ensure good safety margin. While checking for threshold, sometimes the presence of spontaneous rhythm may be detected. Otherwise we can check for spontaneous rhythm by gradually reducing the pacing rate.<\/p>\n<p>Once sinus rhythm with fair rate is detected, keep the pacing rate at a lower back up rate for emergency. It is customary to observe for one more day before removing the temporary pacing lead. But this may vary depending on the stability of the spontaneous rhythm.<\/p>\n<p>Sensitivity control is used to adjust sensitivity sufficient to detect a spontaneous rhythm and inhibit unnecessary pacing.
