Acceleration dependent blocks which are commoner than deceleration dependent blocks, occur above a critical heart rate. Deceleration dependent blocks, also known as bradycardia  dependent blocks, occur below a certain critical heart rate. Acceleration dependent blocks may also be called as tachycardia dependent blocks. Most of us will be familiar with the phasic aberrancy which can occur in supraventricular tachycardia causing wide QRS tachycardia mimicking ventricular tachycardia. Acceleration dependent block is more likely to have right bundle branch block pattern, though left bundle branch block pattern can also occur. Deceleration dependent blocks are usually associated with advanced conduction system disease. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rate dependent blocks can also occur in other regions of the conduction system. Classical example is the control of ventricular rate by the atrioventricular node in atrial fibrillation. Though a large number of atrial impulses reach the AV node in atrial fibrillation, many of them are not conducted into the ventricles. Similarly, when the atria are paced at increasingly higher rates, at a certain level, second degree AV block in the form of Wenckebach phenomenon occurs. The heart rate at which this occurs is often called the Wenckebach threshold of the AV node. It may be noted that this is in the resting state in normal individuals. During exercise, AV node can transmit higher rates due to sympathetic stimulation and withdrawal of parasympathetic signals.
