I am glad that the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DrArunGopi1\/status\/2063216365792891375\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DrArunGopi1\/status\/2063216365792891375\">first one in my region<\/a> has been performed right in my city! Unlike traditional thermal ablation modalities\u2014such as <strong>Radiofrequency (RF) ablation<\/strong> (heat) and <strong>Cryoablation<\/strong> (cold)\u2014PFA relies on a non-thermal energy mechanism called <strong>irreversible electroporation (IRE)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u26a1 Mechanism of Action: Irreversible Electroporation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PFA utilizes ultrashort (microsecond or nanosecond), high-voltage electrical fields to target cardiac tissue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Cellular Disruption:<\/strong> These electrical pulses disrupt the lipid bilayer of cell membranes, creating permanent nanopores. This leads to a loss of cellular homeostasis, leaking of vital ions, and subsequent apoptosis or necrosis of the tissue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Tissue Selectivity:<\/strong> The primary clinical advantage of PFA is its high threshold selectivity. Cardiomyocytes have a significantly lower electrical field threshold for cell death compared to adjacent non-cardiac structures. This means the ablation can successfully isolate pulmonary veins while leaving vulnerable neighboring tissues unharmed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfc6 Key Advantages Over Thermal Ablation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditional thermal therapies can cause collateral damage due to heat or cold dissipation. Severe or excessive ablation can lead to high free plasma hemoglobin and myoglobin levels, which are nephrotoxic and have occasionally caused acute kidney injury requiring temporary dialysis.
