{"id":7106,"date":"2012-04-22T11:51:59","date_gmt":"2012-04-22T11:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cardiophile.org\/?p=7106"},"modified":"2012-04-22T11:51:59","modified_gmt":"2012-04-22T11:51:59","slug":"no-role-for-arb-in-af-without-structural-heart-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/no-role-for-arb-in-af-without-structural-heart-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"No role for ARB in AF without structural heart disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>No role for ARB in AF without structural heart disease<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Angiotensin II-Antagonist in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (ANTIPAF) Trial by Andreas Goette, Norbert Sch\u00f6n, Paulus Kirchhof, G\u00fcnter Breithardt, Thomas Fetsch, Karl Georg H\u00e4usler, Helmut U Klein, Gerhard Steinbeck, Karl Wegscheider and Thomas Meinertz [1] evaluated the role of angiotensin II receptor blockade (ARB) in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in the absence of structural heart disease. It is well known that unlike antiarrhythmic agents, ARBs are safe in those with structural heart disease and they also have a role in prevention of atrial fibrillation in this setting. NTIPAF trial investigated the role of olmesartan medoxomil in reducing the burden of atrial fibrillation in patients with paroxysmal AF without structural heart disease. It was a placebo controlled, prospective, randomized, multicentric trial. They concluded that one year treatment angiotensin receptor blockers in patients with paroxysmal AF and no structural heart disease did not reduce the burden of atrial fibrillation.
