They are often very helpful in documenting the arrhythmic etiology of unexplained syncope. These devices continuously monitor the cardiac rhythm and store them into permanent memory if the patient activates the recording or if preset alarm points are met. This can occasionally lead to lack of storage of data because the patient does not activate the device during the syncope. Another problem sometimes noted is the data loss due to filling of the device due to multiple false events leading to missing of an actual event. Recently a novel wireless ILR which automatically transfers ECG data to a central monitoring station within a short time of the arrhythmic event has been evaluated by Vijayapraveena Paruchuri, Mehul Adhaduk, Naga V Garikipati, Jonathan S Steinberg and Suneet Mittal [1].
