{"id":8048,"date":"2013-04-02T01:02:55","date_gmt":"2013-04-02T01:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cardiophile.org\/?p=8048"},"modified":"2023-04-28T05:11:47","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T23:41:47","slug":"newer-imaging-modalities-for-evaluation-of-coronary-atherosclerosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/professional\/newer-imaging-modalities-for-evaluation-of-coronary-atherosclerosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Newer imaging modalities for evaluation of coronary atherosclerosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2du7KD7SWVI\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Newer imaging modalities for evaluation of coronary atherosclerosis<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some of the newer imaging modalities for assessing coronary atherosclerosis beyond conventional coronary angiography, CT coronary angiography and intravascular ultrasound are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>OCT: Optical coherence tomography<\/li>\n<li>NIRS: Near-infrared spectroscopic imaging<\/li>\n<li>Intravascular magnetic spectroscopy<\/li>\n<li>Intravascular magnetic resonance imaging<\/li>\n<li>IVPA: Intravascular photoacoustic imaging<\/li>\n<li>NIRF: Near-infrared fluorescence imaging<\/li>\n<li>TRFS: Time resolved fluorescence spectroscopic imaging<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Of these, OCT is available for use in many centers across the globe while most of the other modalities are still available only as research tools. Each modality can have its own advantages. If IVUS can image beyond lipid rich plaques, OCT can penetrate calcified plaques.<\/p>\n<p>NIRS gives a &#8216;chemogram&#8217; of the coronary arterial wall and is useful in detecting lipid rich plaques. Lipid rich plaques are frequent in culprit lesions of patients with acute coronary syndromes. They are also common in non culprit lesions in patients with acute coronary syndromes compared to those with stable coronary artery disease [1].<\/p>\n<p>A study published in 2022 compared qualitative angioscopic findings with objective and quantitative NIRS assessement. Those undergoing planned follow up coronary angiography after percutaneous coronary intervention were enrolled.
