Defibrillator voltage is of the order of 2500 volts and the direct current is delivered for the fraction of a second. Since it is a direct current shock, the usual short form used is DC shock. The maximum energy delivered will be 200 Joules for a <a href=\"\/professional\/difference-between-a-monophasic-and-biphasic-defibrillator\/\">biphasic defibrillator<\/a> while it is 360 Joules for the older variety monophasic defibrillator. Monophasic defibrillators are being gradually phased out as they are less effective. High voltage in the device is generated using voltage multiplier circuits.
