What happened when I elevated my CP22E VHF antenna by 1m?

I had brought down the height of my CP22E VHF antenna from 6m long galvanized iron pipe on first floor terrace to a 3m long CPVC pipe during the rainy season with thunderstorms. After that I was finding it difficult to access the VU2EDJ VHF repeater located at 41.3 km from here. Tried elevating the CPVC pipe from the first floor terrace to the first floor parapet so that there would be an increase in height from ground of about 1m. After elevating the CP22E antenna, I could access VU2EDJ repeater during mid morning time with two segments of signal reports on the signal strength meter in my IC 2730 VHF/UHF dual band radio. Tried a call and immediately got a reply from VU3WEW who was portable, at a hill station, about 37 km from here and we had a quite comfortable QSO. So even a slight elevation was useful for accessing VU2EDJ repeater. But I had to bring the antenna down by noon as I saw the CP22E antenna swaying in wind, which I had not seen before. I thought that the one inch CPVC pipe was not strong enough to hold the CP22E antenna at a higher height. In the previous mounting, a larger part of the CPVC pipe was being supported by the fence on the parapet as well as the rainwater gutter of the nearby sloping roof.
