Spotted for the first time on RBN on 80m
|Spotted for the first time on RBN on 80m. I am there, my 80m friends! Signals are going out on 80m from my highly compromised 80m antenna. Main aim for latest revision was AU2V Sacrifice Rock DXpedition starting tomorrow in my region.
Elevated the 80m dipole antenna as much as possible, that is by about one to two feet. I used additional lift up ties with nylon ropes. Yesterday I could have a partial contact with VU3WEW at 9.9 km. VU2XPZ could hear me at 127.7 km, though I could not hear him because of high band noise. He suggested that I should use a voltage balun to reduce noise level.
Today morning I am quite happy as Reverse Beacon Network picked up my CQ call at around 5 am. RBN skimmer at VU2PTT picked up my CQ call in CW with a signal to noise ratio of 8 dB. That is the first ever time my CQ call is getting picked up by an RBN skimmer on 3510 kHz. Distance covered was 275km. So I can very well hope for a contact with AU2V at 39.3km. Sacrifice Rock is one of the most difficult to activate Island on the Air. Hence we have every reason to be proud of it and looking forward to it.
