Have you heard of Wi-Fi 7, the newest networking standard?
Most of us will be familiar with the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands which are common place in our home wireless routers. Some may be aware of the 6 GHz Wi-Fi band as well. But very few will be aware of the newest Wi-Fi 7, which is the IEEE 802.11be standard, offering faster speeds, up to 46 Gbps, lower latency, and greater reliability than previous Wi-Fi generations. Wi-Fi 7 has broader 320 MHz channels with a new 4K QAM modulation for denser data transmission. QAM stands for quadrature amplitude modulation. Multi-Link Operation (MLO) allows devices to connect to multiple frequency bands simultaneously. Wi-Fi 7 is meant for demanding applications like augmented reality, virtual reality, high definition video streaming and large scale cloud gaming. It will be useful for telemedicine applications and 8K video streaming. Wi-Fi 7 operates on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, utilizing all three to achieve higher speeds and greater reliability.
