Trying to avoid self oscillation of Easy BITX by reducing bias

I am trying to avoid self oscillation in my homebrew Easy BITX by gradually reducing the bias voltage to IRF510 final transistor. It is quite a sensitive step as mentioned in the manual. The total current draw of the Easy BITX jumps suddenly when the bias level goes beyond a certain point.
