When I came to know of Clipperton DXpedition planned for January 2024, it brought back nostalgic memories, not of working the DXpedition on air, but of reading about how difficult it was for W9KNI to work Clipperton! In his book “The Complete DX’er”, I had read him describing how many days he was patiently listening for that feeble CW signal. My memory of it is also feeble as I had read the book borrowed from my friend VU2FWW, long back. Today I called him to find out more about the book. He told me that it has gone on another loan and also about how difficult it was in those days, to get the book directly from the US. Anyway, the book was an excellent read for all my free time, several days at a stretch.

Coming back to Clipperton DXpedition 2024, Clipperton Island is uninhabited since 1945 and is a State private property of France. It is a favourite DXpedition site of Radio Amateurs with history of many in the past. Perseverance DX Group is organizing the Clipperton DXpedition 2024 and the callsign will be TX5S. Clipperton is an atoll in the East Pacific, 1080 km from Mexico. As per the Clipperton DXpedition 2024 website, the team will arrive Clipperton on Jan 17 2024 and plans to stay on the island for 16 days. They will be QRV on 160-6m, on SSB, CW, RTTY and FT8. Fervently hoping to work the DXpedition this time if conditions permit and wishing team TX5S all success!
