Morse Key forĀ Code Practice From VU2LAU
Today I received a Morse Key for Code Practice from VU2LAU as gift. It is a very simple device which uses a 9 Volt battery and a buzzer which can be used for practising Morse Code. Though in many countries learning Morse Code is not mandatory to get Amateur Radio license, in India one has to pass Morse Code examination in addition to examination in Basic Electronics and Radio Regulations, to get a General Class license with higher operating privilges. Morse Code is not needed for Amateur Station Operators Licence (Restricted). The Morse Key is available from VU2LAU along with the literature by post parcel. Details are available at the webpage: https://hamradiokitsindia.blogspot.com/2023/05/ham-radio-sport-kits-india-about-morse.html

I am planning to practice Morse Code once again as I have not been using it for quite some time as I do not have an HF ham radio at present. Currently I am only on VHF and occasionaly on UHF. I was very active on CW mode which uses Morse Code with my homebrew radio equipment decades back. I have worked a lot of DX (long distance) stations across the globe using Morse Code at that time. My homebrew setup did not permit long distance communication on voice because it had only amplitude modulation (AM). Long distance ham radio communications on voice are mostly on single side band (SSB). Otherwise you need very high power like broadcast stations for long distance communication on voice using AM. Even though digital modes like FT8 are available for weak signal communications in ham radio now, CW is still being used by several operators worldwide for long distance communication at low power, known as QRP, QRPp, QRPpp and Milliwatting.
