What is VUCC in Amateur Radio?

VUCC stands for VHF/UHF Century Club award from American Radio Relay League. Unlike the DXCC which is for confirmed contacts with 100 DXCC entities or “countries”, VUCC award is given for contact with a minimum number of Maidenhead grid locators per band. One grid square measures one degree latitude by two degrees longitude. As in the case of DXCC, ARRL membership is mandatory only for those in the United States jursidiction. Minimum number of grid locators needed for VUCC varies with the band.

While 100 credits are needed for 50 MHz, 144 MHz and Satellite, only 50 credits are needed for 222 MHz and 432 MHz. It comes down to 25 credits for 902 MHz and 1296 MHz and 10 credits for 2.3 GHz. Only 5 credits are needed for 3.4 GHz, 5.7 GHz, 10 GHz, 24 GHz, 47 GHz, 75 GHz, 119 GHz, 142 GHz, 241 GHz
and Laser 300 GHz and above. Awards for 50 credits are designated as half century and those for 25 credits as quarter century. Higher band awards are designated as SHF. There are quite a lot of rules for VUCC which can be found at the ARRL webpage.
