WebSDRs for listening to Amateur Radio in India

WebSDRs for listening to Amateur Radio in India

SDR stands for software defined radio, which uses software to process the radiofrequency signal unlike the conventional radios which utilize hardware for this purpose. WebSDR is an SDR connected to the internet so that multiple users can actually tune it and use it to listen to the frequency of their choice simultaneously. WebSDRs can be accessed if you know the URL, using a personal computer connected to the internet, without the need for any other software or hardware.

I have been listening to Qatar Oscar 100 Geostationary Satellite WebSDR for quite some time, with good audio reception. Now I tried to look out for similar setup for regular HF amateur bands. VU2JOS has sent me a global list of WebDSRs, available at: https://qsl.net/vu2jos/SDR.htm. I have been able to listen to Charminar Net held on 7080 KHz daily between 7.00 am to 8.00 am IST using the Coimbatore, Tamilnadu WebSDR well. I could also listen to Amateur Radio transmissions using the New Delhi WebSDR clearly.

Most of the WebSDRs I have come across are from KiwiSDR. On visiting their website at http://kiwisdr.com/public/ I noticed that there are 672 receivers online as on 5th February 2023, spread across different regions of the globe. On searching for India at the site I could find one more WebSDR from India which was not listed at the link given by VU2JOS. That was GRMS PNQ | PUNE, INDIA. WebSDR of QO 100 has a waterfall display which moves from below upwards while that of HF WebSDRs are seen moving from top to bottom. Colour pattern of the display is also different. Tuning controls are also different, though you can drag and tune in both.
