Solder Wire

Solder Wire

Solder wire with a core containing soldering flux is available as rolls like this for hobby electronics projects. Soldering is usually done using an electrically operated soldering iron. Conventionally solder is an alloy of lead and tin with a low melting point. Lead-free solders are being used now-a-days because of regulatory requirements in many countries. Lead-free solders are more environment and health friendly. Lead-free solders may contain tin, copper, silver, bismuth, indium, zinc and antimony. Composition may vary in different regions.

The surfaces of the component and printed circuit board to be soldered are cleaned with an abrasive paper if needed, prior to soldering to have a good electrical connection. Solder has applications in plumbing and jewelry making as well, but different techniques and solders are used in those scenario.
