Checking my new antenna tuner on 80m dipole and 40m fan dipole for 160m!

First I tried to tune my 40m fan dipole which has also elements for 20 and 10m, for the 160m band. The SWR was 1:9.9, probably the maximum which the tuner can read, even after adding 1367 pF of capacitance and 6.17 microhenry of inductance. Antenna efficiency was shown as just 33% even after adding these values.

My radio showed HI SWR indicator in red colour even after tuning. But the noise level on 160m was only 9+ around 5-10 dB, most likely because the antenna was yet to resonate for that band. So it is not possible to tune my 40m fan dipole with my automatic antenna tuner of N7DDC design for the top band or 160m band.

Changed over to my 80 dipole and the values were 1470 pF and 4.5 microhenries after tuning. Yet the antenna was tuned to SWR of 1:1.19 and the antenna efficiency reading was 99%. So longer element length on the air made tuning easier on 160m band.

At the same time the noise level on 160m rose to nearly 9+ around 30 dB. I have noted this effect very often. A resonant antenna, I mean a half-wave dipole, also picks up more band noise. Due to space constraints I have not been able to try out a delta loop for HF. I had tried delta loop for VHF and found lower noise levels on that band.
