Checking the Voice Transponder of BeliefSat-0

Checking the Voice Transponder of BeliefSat-0

There was a pass of BeliefSat-0, the new Amateur Radio FM Satellite from India, yesterday night at 11.17 pm IST (5.47 pm UTC). I had been informed by the faculty in charge of the BeliefSat-0 that the voice transponder will be switched on during that pass. I had asked two of my ham friends to try the voice transponder during the pass.

It was a pass of about 37 degree maximum elevation for me. So it would have a higher elevation for my friends who were operating from locations South of me. I could hear the telemetry beacon about three times. I did not hear any voice transmissions. I did try calling a few times in between the telemtry beacons. Still I could not hear anything.

The recording which you heard in the beginning is one of the telemetry beacons which I heard. I am reproducing it once again. The hissing sounds in the beginning and at the end are heard with the squelch open when no signal is being received.

Shall try more passes with higher elevation in the coming days, during daytime, to check if I can contact any fellow amateur radio operators through BeliefSat-0.
