Checking Waterfall Display and Digital Noise Reduction in FT-710

Till now I was using the 3 Dimensions Spectrum Stream or 3DSS in FT-710. Though it is an excellent form of display, due to the heavy noise in my region, it did not appear very nice for me. Hence I thought of checking the conventional two dimensional waterfall display option, which is more often used in other radios. Pressed on 3DSS at the lower part of the TFT screen to toggle it to waterfall display. Now it appears better for me with top half of the screen showing the noisy display and lower half showing the nice two dimensional waterfall display.

As the noise was high I thought of testing out the DNR or Digital Noise Reduction as well. You can hear the beep sound when DNR is activated. I could feel that the noise level has come down a bit with activation of DNR function, though it is not that remarkable to give an ‘excellent’ report. There are other noise reduction algorithms also there in the radio like Attenuator, Digital Notch Filter and Noise Blanker, which I am yet to test out.
