Comparing QRP vs 100 Watts CW on Multi-Band Fan Dipole – Evening Update
|I had posted a comparison of the performance of my setup as assessed by pick up at CW skimmers on Reverse Beacon Network. Repeated the same test in the evening. This time I did not get spotted on QRP mode at all, at 6.40 pm, which was tested first, before the test on 100 Watts. At 100 Watts, I got spotted on RBN from Australia on 20m with signal to noise ratio of 11 dB. Another spot was by VU2PTT at 171 miles on 40m, with a signal to noise ratio of 15 dB. It has been mentioned at the RBN website that if a skimmer detects one callsign, further decodes within a period of 10 minutes will be ignored. To overcome this problem they have suggested change of frequency by 300 Hz, especially when you want to check different antennas on the same frequency prior to contest operations. As you may be very well aware, testing after a long interval may give different results due to change in band conditions and the tests may not be comparable.
