Have you heard of a Loop Yagi antenna?
|Well, I had not heard of a Loop Yagi till today morning, when I saw a picture on X, posted by N2MAK. That was in preparation for January VHF contest, for which he was planning to operate on 900MHz and 1.2GHz with 14 elements for the 23cm and 33cm bands! Prompt reply to the query on what antenna it was, came the answer: Loop Yagi. Saw a design for 2.5 GHz Loop Yagi antenna online. According to that article, the best material for construction of Loop Yagi is brass or copper, with brass as better choice as it is easier to solder and corrodes less than copper. For 2.4 GHz amateur band, driven element is 130mm long while the directors are 120mm. All elements are 10mm wide. Directors are bent into circles and ends soldered together. Driven element is made into a loop and one end soldered to the inner conductor of the coax while the other end is soldered to the shield. A fine wire mesh or sheet of metal acts as the reflector.
