|What is Ham Radio (Amateur Radio)?
Ham Radio, the popular name of Amateur Radio, is two-way communications by licensed persons, as a popular hobby. It is taken up by many who are interested in electronics and radio communications. Many are attracted to the hobby due to press coverage of Ham Radio support during natural disasters when other modes of communications fail. In each country there will be regulatory authority which oversees the certification of Amateur Radio Operators.

Base stations can be used to operate from home or make shift locations as in case of disaster relief. Hand held equipment working on Very High Frequency or Ultra High Frequency can be used for short distance communications. High Frequencey bands are used for long distance communications. VHF and higher bands can also be used for satellite linked communications. Amateur Radio Satellites are mostly in Low Earth Orbits and one is there in a Geostationary Orbit.
