Discussion started off with VU23KM who had recently upgraded from VU32KM in a short period of time, mentioning that he is using an <a href=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/what-is-an-end-fed-half-wave-efhw-antenna\/\">End Fed Half Wave Dipole antenna<\/a>. He has been able to work quite a few countries in this short period. VU3CDK who has been listening to the roundtable for the past few days while in transit using <a href=\"https:\/\/openwebrx.rajaol.in\/#freq=7150000,mod=drm,sql=-150\">VU3TBU OpenWebRX<\/a> joined the frequency from Mumbai. Fortunately I could hear him fairly well as the noise level at that time was only S1-2. Later he tried split operation with transmission on 14200 kHz and listening on 7135 kHz using WebSDR as the copy from my side was not good. But I could not copy him on 14200 kHz using VU3TBU WebSDR. Luckily VU24DX joined the frequency at that time. He could copy VU3CDK on 14200 kHz in his radio, with his better antenna system. They had a short QSO while we waiting on 7135 kHz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VU23KM mentioned that he is using <a href=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/know-your-coaxial-cable-well\/\">RG213 feedline<\/a> and wanted to know which is the best cable for ham radio. VU24DX mentioned that he is using RG213 for HF and LMR400 for VHF and 6m. There is also a low loss <a href=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/what-is-hardline-and-semi-flexible-hardline\/\">hardline cable<\/a> awaiting installation. Hardline cable is very rigid, with copper tubing as a shield rather than a braid as in case of other cables. RG stands for Radio Guide. LMR stands for Low-Loss, Medium-density Radio frequency coaxial cable. Next we had a discussion on which is the best antenna, whether it is EFHW, horizontal dipole or inverted V dipole. VU24DX mentioned that horizontal and inverted V dipoles are almost equally good. EFHW is a slightly compromise antenna meant for easy installation. Advantage is that a single antenna can be used on multiple bands while center fed dipoles need independent antennas for each band. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vertical antennas are very good for DX (long distance) work as they have a low angle of take off of the signals which bounce back at a longer distance from the ionosphere. Downside is that they pick up more atmospheric noise, sometimes necessitating a separate RX antenna for reception. Flex radio which VU24DX is using has separate RX antenna port. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heard that the new IC 7300 MK II also has a separate RX antenna port. VU23KM mentioned that he is on the lookout for US stations. The presence of KE5EE&#8217;s net on 14207 kHz by about 17:30 IST (12:00 UTC) which helps stations from all regions to work US as well as other DX stations was suggested. We hope more participation from new and old hams with more technical discussion in the coming days. Another important aspect highlighted by VU24DX was the need for confirmation of QSOs, ideally with <a href=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/what-is-logbook-of-the-world-lotw-in-amateur-radio\/\">LoTW, Logbook of the World<\/a>, by American Radio Relay League, which is one of the global standards.
