Many would wonder what all these really mean and how different they are. The main thing to remember is that three of these are just different versions of <strong>Natural Gas<\/strong>, while one is a byproduct of <strong>Petroleum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The Natural Gas Trio (CNG, PNG, LNG)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These three are essentially the same substance\u2014<strong>Methane (CH\u2084)<\/strong>\u2014but they are stored and delivered in different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CNG (Compressed Natural Gas):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What it is:<\/strong> Natural gas compressed to less than 1% of its volume.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Primary Use:<\/strong> Fuel for vehicles (buses, cars, auto-rickshaws). It is stored in high-pressure cylindrical tanks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safety:<\/strong> It is lighter than air, so it disperses quickly in the event of a leak.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PNG (Piped Natural Gas):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What it is:<\/strong> Natural gas delivered directly to homes and industries through a network of pipelines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Primary Use:<\/strong> Domestic cooking (ovens\/stoves) and industrial heating.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Benefit:<\/strong> No need to store cylinders; it is &#8220;on-tap&#8221; like water or electricity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What it is:<\/strong> Natural gas cooled to approximately <strong>-162\u00b0C (-260\u00b0F)<\/strong>, turning it into a clear, colorless liquid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Primary Use:<\/strong> Long-distance transport. When liquefied, natural gas takes up 600 times less space than in its gaseous state, making it efficient to ship across oceans in massive tankers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The Petroleum Outlier (LPG)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What it is:<\/strong> A mixture of flammable hydrocarbon gases, specifically <strong>Propane (C\u2083H\u2088)<\/strong> and <strong>Butane (C\u2084H\u2081\u2080)<\/strong>. It is a byproduct of oil refining and natural gas processing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Primary Use:<\/strong> The common &#8220;cooking gas&#8221; found in heavy steel cylinders (bottled gas). Also used in some specialized vehicles (Auto-LPG).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safety Note:<\/strong> Unlike the others, <strong>LPG is heavier than air<\/strong>.
