This causes sudden ionospheric disturbances (SIDs), which heavily absorb high-frequency signals. If you are operating on 40m or 20m, a strong flare will instantly wipe out the band, dropping the noise floor to zero and cutting off propagation mid-contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, a CME hurls billions of tons of magnetized plasma into space. If directed toward Earth, it arrives days later and violently interacts with our magnetosphere. This triggers a geomagnetic storm.
