The engineering team has kept Odyssey operational through several key strategies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Aerobraking at Arrival:<\/strong> Instead of firing its engines to slow down and enter its final science orbit in 2001, Odyssey repeatedly skimmed through the upper Martian atmosphere to bleed off speed. This aerobraking maneuver saved approximately 200 kilograms of propellant, leaving a massive reserve for its extended mission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Momentum Desaturation:<\/strong> Odyssey primarily relies on spinning reaction wheels, powered by its solar arrays, to maintain its physical orientation and point its instruments.
