It can be considered as a measure of how effective the antenna is in receiving power of electromagnetic radiation. Effective antenna aperture can be defined as the area oriented perpendicular to the direction of the incoming electromagnetic wave which would have the same amount of power from that wave which is produced in the antenna on receiving it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5444\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/What-is-Effective-Antenna-Aperture.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1207\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/What-is-Effective-Antenna-Aperture.jpg 1207w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/What-is-Effective-Antenna-Aperture-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/What-is-Effective-Antenna-Aperture-1024x573.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/What-is-Effective-Antenna-Aperture-768x429.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1207px) 100vw, 1207px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This means that if <i>p\u00a0<\/i>is the power density of the incident wave in Watts\/m<sup>2<\/sup> and P<em>t\u00a0<\/em>the power available at the antenna terminals to the receiver, then, P<em>t = p x\u00a0<\/em>A<em>e,\u00a0<\/em>where A<em>e\u00a0<\/em>is the effective antenna aperture.\u00a0The effective antenna aperture is proportional to the square of the wavelength and the gain of the antenna. The formula for calculating the effective antenna aperture if the gain of the antenna is known is: A<em>e = <\/em>(\u03bb<sup>2<\/sup>\/4\u03c0) x G, where \u03bb is the wavelength and G the gain of the antenna as its linear value and not dB.<\/p>\n<p>Antennas with large effective apertures are considered as high gain antennas or beam antennas. They are very sensitive to radio waves coming from the preferred direction compared to radio waves coming from other directions, which are considered as interference.
