They may be accompanied by coronal mass ejections. Coronal mass ejections can generate radio bursts that reaches Earth in minutes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fspas.2023.1184171\/full\">can last up to tens of hours<\/a>. Geomagnetic storms can occur in response to these phenomena, causing even a 45 dB increase in attenuation of radio signals arriving via the ionosphere.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5668\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Impact-of-Solar-Flares-on-Amateur-Radio.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Impact-of-Solar-Flares-on-Amateur-Radio.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Impact-of-Solar-Flares-on-Amateur-Radio-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Impact-of-Solar-Flares-on-Amateur-Radio-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Impact-of-Solar-Flares-on-Amateur-Radio-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Coronal mass ejection is an eruption magnetic field and plasma mass from the Sun&#8217;s corona into the heliosphere, which is the outermost atmospheric layer of the Sun. If they reach interplanetary space, they can reach the Earth&#8217;s magnetosphere and cause geomagnetic storms, aurora and rarely damage electrical power grids.<\/p>\n<p>Solar flares increase extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and X-ray energy which causes rapid increase in ionization of the <a href=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/layers-of-ionosphere-and-importance-in-radio-communication\/\">D-layer of the ionosphere<\/a>. As D-layer of the ionosphere is present on the daytime side of the globe, this can cause complete fading out of dayside HF communications. The problem can last from a few minutes to an hour or sometimes more.
