Unlike the centre fed half-wave dipole antenna, feed point is at a high voltage point of the radiating element instead of at the high current point. While the centre fed half-wave dipole resonates at odd multiples of half-wave length, EFHW operates at odd and even multiples of a half wavelength. This would mean a truly multi-band operation for the Radio Amateur!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_939\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-939\" style=\"width: 801px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-939 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/What-is-an-End-Fed-Half-Wave-EFHW-Antenna-1-e1678015264602.jpg\" alt=\"What is an End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) Antenna\" width=\"801\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/What-is-an-End-Fed-Half-Wave-EFHW-Antenna-1-e1678015264602.jpg 801w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/What-is-an-End-Fed-Half-Wave-EFHW-Antenna-1-e1678015264602-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/johnsonfrancis.org\/techworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/What-is-an-End-Fed-Half-Wave-EFHW-Antenna-1-e1678015264602-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-939\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">What is an End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) Antenna?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But EFHW has high feed point impedance of around 5000 Ohms unlike the 72 Ohms of the centre-fed half wave dipole which matches easily with a 50 Ohms coaxial cable. This necessitates the use of a matching transformer for EFHW. This matching transformer is called &#8216;unun&#8217; as it matches an unbalanced antenna to an unbalanced feed line. A small counterpoise is used beyond the feed point.
