Story of ‘Grapes in a Pot’
My grape vine which was spreading well and fruiting as well had to be removed due to ‘logistic’ reasons. After a few days the stump of the grape vine started sprouting. Dug it out meticulously and planted it in a 23 inch garden pot filled with potting mix. In the process the sprouts fell off! Fortunately it sprouted again in a few days, thanks to the good thick roots which were retrieved along with the stump. Beside the grape vine you can see a Moringa plant grown from a seed, few red amaranth plants and a date palm ‘seedling’. The grape vine has been routed to climb on a one inch square aluminium pipe, surplus from my antenna projects.
After a few days I had thinned out some of the less growing sprouts, allowing one to grow out well. Still one or two smaller sprouts came up again. But the first one quickly outgrew them and I did not bother to thin again. The Moringa plant is also growing rather competitively, though it has been easily overtaken by the grape vine. Even though date plant sapling had been in the pot long before the grape vine, it has been very slow growing, maybe because it is not a native of this region. Red amaranth plants have been hidden in the rapid growth of the grape vine. Let us hope that this grape vine on the antenna boom will boom with grapes soon!
