6m FM QSO with 40m full wave loop antenna!
That is the wonder of odd harmonic resonance. 6m or 50 MHz band is roughly the 7th harmonic of 7MHz or 40m band. That is an odd harmonic, though we are more familiar with working 21 MHz, the third harmonic, with 40m antennas. I had an FM QSO with VU24DX on 6m just now and got 5,3 report! He was using a 3 element Yagi antenna pointed in my direction and the distance between our stations as per QRZ.COM is 9.9 km. Not that it is a great distance, but I was quite happy as a previous attempt last year did not succeed. That time I was using 6m dipole fed by 15m long RG213 cable. This QSO gives me good motivation to build a 3 element Yagi for 6m. But I am wondering where to mount it on my available terrace space, just the size of a single room. The whole area is crowded by my HF wire antennas and Moxon Yagi, which occasionally tangles with wire antennas when I rotate it manually for tracking Low Earth Orbit amateur radio satellites like the International Space Station. Here is a short clip from our 6m FM QSO.
