Another G4 Geomagnetic Storm!
I had experienced a Radio Black Out due to Extreme G5 Geomagnetic Storm a few months back. Today morning I just glanced at the Solar Terrestrial Data by N0NBH on qrz.com in preparation for starting Ham Radio Technical Discussion Net on 7065 kHz, to know the probable propagation condition. I was quite surprised to see “Poor” band condition through out the HF bands, both at day and night. There was also a prediction of Mid Latitude Aurora. Sporadic E bands were also closed. Solar Flare Probability was noted as 55%. Geomagenetic Field data showed a Major Storm.
Immediately I had a look at the Planetary K Index of Geomagnetic Activity at theĀ Space Weather Prediction Center of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, United States of America. It showed me that planetary K index had gone up to 8 between 12:00 to 15:00z on August 12, 2024. At this moment when I am writing this, the data showed it was subsiding with K Index at 4.67 between 00:00 and 03:00z on August 13, 2024. A post on X of NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center yesterday, had warned that a G2 (Moderate) Geomagnetic Storm is likely on August 13th as Coronal Mass Ejection from the Sun and its influences, which began on August 11th continued. But the storm had actually gone up to the G4 level yesterday night.
