This car mobile phone charger fits into the cigarette lighter adapter available in every car. Power on will be indicated by the lighting up of an LED. Typically the port works only when the car engine is on, as a protective measure to prevent discharging of the car battery when the engine is off. This charger has two ports into which USB charging cables can be plugged in. Each port of this charger will deliver upto 12 watts of power. It can be used to power other USB compatible devices also.

The charger converts the 12 V DC available from the car battery to 5 V DC for USB ports. Some low quality chargers may interfere with car radio systems as they generate radio frequency signals in the process of DC to DC conversion. These chargers also have built in stabilization circuits to avoid voltage fluctuations when the car is running and when other devices like head light are drawing power from the car battery.
