Happy to Hear Diwata 2 (PO-101, Philippines-OSCAR 101) for the First Time
So far my attempts at listening Diwata 2 (PO-101) amateur radio satellite have been unsuccessful. I decided to try again after elevating my Moxon Yagi slightly and giving an upward angulation for it. It was a pass of around 68 degree maximum elevation in my region along the Western side. Prior to the pass I pointed my Moxon Yagi to the azimuth of maximum elevation of the pass and started listening with my IC 2730 full duplex radio. Manual Doppler tuning was done with guidance from Argentinian Amsat webpage which I use regularly. I was very happy to hear VU2ADV loud and clear twice at about the time of closest approach of the PO 101 satellite in my region. Though I called him back, I could not hear my voice down on the downlink then. Some time later I called again and I could hear my voice on the downlink clearly. But somewhow VU2ADV was not able to hear me and I lost the opportunity for a QSO on PO 101. As VU2ADV mentioned later, every satellite pass is unique and we have to continue trying till we succeed.
Here is a fast animation from Argentinian Amsat webpage showing live display of Doppler correction needed, changes in azimuth, elevation and distance of satellite.
Here is the audio clip of the pass, after removing most of the hissing noise of the open squelch in the radio while listening to satellites.
As VU2ADV is having an excellent antenna setup with four element cubical quad for VHF, cross Yagi for UHF and azimuth-elevation antenna rotator, my limited setup of fixed elevation-azimuth Moxon Yagi was the most likely reason for both of us missing each other on an otherwise excellent pass of PO 101. Anyway with the enthusiasm given by success in receiving PO 101 for the first time, I have decided to try more passes of PO 101 till I succeed!
