Having a Look at My HP Smart Choice Victus Laptop
Bought an HP Smart Choice Victus Gaming Laptop from a popular online store in this region. Though it is named as gaming laptop, I have absolutely no intention to play games on it. My attraction was the presence of a GPU or Graphics Processing Unit, which does increase the weight of the laptop, but improves performance on rendering graphics. I thought that it will help me in video editing, though I am yet to learn hi-tech video editing. It has a 13th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and 6GB GPU. 15.6 inch size is fine for me as I am going to use it like a desktop, connected to a large external monitor for ease of viewing. 512 GB Solid State Drive should also be enough for me as most of the storage these days are on the cloud. When I saw the 16GB DDR4 RAM specification, I remembered the 16MB EDO RAM in my first desktop computer way back in 1998.
The laptop has a USB Type-C socket, couple of USB Type-A sockets, one HDMI 2.1 socket which I can use to connect to my large external monitor and an RJ-45 socket. I find the last one most interesting as many of the recent laptops at home did not have an RJ-45 LAN socket, though some old laptops had. Maybe because people are more fond of WiFi, many may not be interested in a LAN port as plugging in a LAN cable causes tethering. But as my use is mostly stationary, access to a LAN port will greatly increase the internet speed which I get from fiber connection. Even when I tested yesterday, while it gave around 110 MBPS speed on LAN, the speed was only around 50 MBPS on WiFi. I am yet to check the WiFi and LAN connectivity internet speeds in the new laptop. It could be higher compared to what I had obtained in yesterday’s test on an old dilapidated laptop using a USB to LAN converter.
HP Wide Vision 720p HD camera might be useful for me to participate in occasional Google Meets and possibly in my video projects, though I am yet to try it out. Like most of the laptops these days, this one also comes with Windows 11 Home and MS Office. I hope the Intel CPU with 4.6 GHz speed will help me work multiple simultaneous windows and improve video processing speeds. Power supply is rated at 200 W and can run on an input ranging from 100 – 240 V. Output voltage is 19.5 Volts. It has been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards as well as similar agencies of other nations including US, UK and EU.
