VU2JN Technical Roundtable on 7135 kHz at 745 AM IST
As scheduled yesterday, VU2MV and myself joined on 7035 kHz at around 745 am, which was the roundtable frequency with VU2JN and others four decades back. VU2JN was the Elmer of many of the current day ‘old timers’. VU2PTR also joined the frequency. Meanwhile, W8LV online and VU24DX on air, had suggested that 7035 kHz is in the CW segment in many regions. So we decided to QSY to 7135 kHz. There I was joined by VU2TEW, formerly from VU2TEC and VU2MV. As there was a lot of motorboating QRM at VU2MV, he had to sign off quickly. Myself and VU2TEW continued on that frequency till about 812 am. We had a good discussion about HF antennas and operations on higher bands. VU2MV had noted good propagation on 10m with his three element monobander Yagi. VU2TEW mentioned about the series of callsigns beginning with VU2TE* which were active from VU2TEC in the days of VU2JN. Of these, VU2TER has started coming back on air after retirement, with a QRP radio. We are planning to return to 7135 kHz every day at 745 am IST for a regular technical roundtable as in the days of VU2JN. VU2LID/N8LI (ex VU2TEC) noted on X that this is an excellent idea to revive the old roundtable and hopes that it will continue on a regular basis!
