ACE inhibitor

ACE inhibitor is short form for angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. They are an important group of medications used in the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure. Some of the medications belonging to this group are captopril, enalapril, lisinopril and fosinopril. They are very effective medications but for some minor side effects like a dry irritating cough which can occur in a small percentage of persons taking them. These group of drugs have a role in protecting the kidney, especially in those with high blood sugar. At the same time they cannot be used in those who already have significant damage to their kidneys.
