Cholesterol – the good, the bad and the ugly – Part 2

Ouch! That’s not good. Well, what’s with the good, bad and ugly stuff?

Oh! I thought that you might never ask! So here goes.

You might have heard about HDL – the so called ‘GOOD CHOLESTEROL’ and LDL – the so called ‘BAD CHOLESTEROL’. Wondering why they are called so?

Both HDL and LDL basically consists of fats(including cholesterol) and proteins. HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) carries cholesterol from the different parts of our body to the liver for removal, whereas LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) carries it to the different parts of our body for deposition.

In short when your HDL level increases or when your LDL level decreases, the cholesterol deposition in the blood vessels decreases, decreasing the chance for a blockage!
